The feature's that come with PSP make it possible for the brand new user, to immediately begin creating their own style of art. What more could anyone ask for? The answer is simple, We want MORE. We want to be able to add all the neat FREE stuff we see on the web for PSP. We want to be able to make our own additions, after all, we can make our own Masks, Tubes, Brushes, and lots more stuff. We just don't know how to make them work in PSP.
We feel your pain. That's why we put this page together. Read on..

" Creating True Mask Files "
Mask files ( .msk ) are used to create a really neat edge effect for your images, or photos. I know you've seen photos with soft, eye appealing curved edges, instead of the dull to look at, straight edges, up one side and down the other. You can also use Masks to block out part of an image you don't want seen, or even assist you in your creation of Transparent Images..Here's how. Create A Mask

" How To Use Masks "
OK, you've just learned how to creat you're own Grayscale Masks, now how do you install them and put them to use. From The Author.."You can use grayscale masks in conjunction with Paint Shop Pro's masking feature to create interesting edge effects. This site and many others offer free grayscale masks you can download for this purpose. Using Your New Masks

" Creating Picture Frames "
OK, you've read my Tutorial on Blending Photos ( on my Most Requested Tuts page ), and you have this neat family photo, but you're NOT going to have one made and framed for every living family member. So what to do? Easy, just Email everybody one, that should keep them happy. But..before you do that, let's put a beautiful Frame around it. PSP has some, but they're kinda everyday stuff like you would find in a Five & Dime Store. Why not make your own? Create Picture Frames

" How To Install Picture Frames "
If I have this figured right, you've read the above tutorial on how to create ( or found some free ones on the web ) Picture Frames, now you want to know how to install in them in PSP, so you can save them in the proper format ( .pfr ) so you can use them again..Read on McDuff. Install Picture Frames

" Make Your Own Custom Brushes "
The Brushes we are referring to are the Paint brushes that are used for 99.9% of every graphic you will create. Again, PSP has many, but they're not as creative as we are, huh? As almost every user of PSP will do, you will want to make your own, and probably very soon. Brushes can be anything from what looks like a brush stroke, to using an actual picture you already have. This site will show you how to use a Graphic / Picture, as a paint brush. Create A Brush

" Using The Image Slicer "
The first thing you're thinking to yourself is, why would I want to slice up my image. One of the " key things " you MUST know about your web site is..if it loads slow, everybody visiting it IS GOING TO LEAVE, in a hurry. PSP has this neat tool that will slice up your image in small pieces, and put it back together on your site using the HTML that PSP wrote ( yep, you read it right ). This way, each tiny piece loads very fast, hence..the whole picture is right before your eyes in just seconds, keeping your visitor where they should be, looking at your site. Image Slicing

" Installing Picture Tubes "
I've already gone over this in my Most Requested Tutorails, but since it fits in both categories, here it is again.. From The Author " A unique feature of Paint Shop Pro is the Picture Tubes. Tubes are a way of storing and applying your favorite clip art images. You can make your own, or a huge number are available off the web. " Installing Tubes

" PSP's Layers Lock Up In Win XP "
This isn't exactly a tutorial, but if you're using Windows XP ( as I am ), sooner or later this is going to happen. Be sure and Bookmark the site, so when it happens to you, you can fix it straight away. Locked Up

" Creating Your Own Gradients "
Gradients are really neat. The overall effect of your graphic can be greatly enhanced by adding a Gradient, either at the beginning, or end of your creation. They're the effect you see that looks like one edge of a graphic fades off from one color to another, on the opposite side of the graphic ( get that? ). Oh well, to better understand, go here. Create A Gradient
Oh, by the way, if you really like the effect ( and I'm sure you do ), but aren't ready to create your own yet, get on over to Nanson's Place, without doubt, the best place on the net for incredibly beautiful Gradients. Just download and install.

" Too Many Save File Formats "
I dont know about everybody else, but when I save a .file, 99% of the time it's either a .JPEG, .GIF, or .PSP. Maybe once in a great while, I'll save as a .BMP, but that's about it, and I'm betting everybody else is the same way. So, why have all those file types in the save menu if I dont use them? You can get rid of them if you wish.. File Save Cleanup

" Setting Up Your Plug-In Directory "
As mentioned before, you're going to collect plug-ins like there's no tomorrow. Once you do, BE SURE and put them in a seperate download directory where you can find them once you're ready to install. Then when you are ready to take that giant step, go here to see how it's done. By the way, this site will tell you that you need two files installed on your PC before the plug-ins will work, this is absolutely true.
Before you download and install them though, check to see if you have them already, most of the newer PC's already have them installed..Here's how to check, click on your Start Button, then click on " Search, then go to Files or Folders ( in Win XP, click on Files or Folders ). Make sure your search is in the Root Directory ( "C" ). Type in the first one " MSVCRT10.DLL " to see if it's there, next search for " PLUGIN.DLL ". If your search finds either one of these files, DO NOT download it, you dont need it. If you don't find one or both, you MUST have both of them before your 3rd party plug-ins will work...Now, go find out how to set up that directory. Plug In Directory

" The Alpha Channel "
The Alpha Channel, that's the channel somebody swam across in England, ain't it? Nope, but it's another one of PSP's great features you really need to know about..From The Author " The Alpha Channel is this nifty storage area in your image's file for non-visible picture elements. Think of it as your picture's own little private utility closet / filing cabinet. The .psp picture file has these extra goodies stored in its Alpha channel that can just travel around with the picture (unseen until you need them) as a part of the file. " The Alpha Channel

" What's My File's Size"
Like I mentioned in the Image Slicer thingy above, it's important to know what size your image / photo is, for many reasons. The smaller you can get the file size, and still have a good looking finished product, the better off you are. So you need to know how big it is as you work on it ( big = meaning Pixels ). Here's how to find out. File Size

" Error Message About Not Enough Memory Available "
I see this in Forums often ( speaking of Forums, have you been to mine yet? Shame on you.:)
OK, back to that issue. Your working on a graphic, or trying to save something you just created, and this annoying pop-up says you dont have enough available memory to complete the task..whoa, scary. And it IS scary, if you aren't aware that it happens, but after going here, you'll be way ahead of the game. Available Memory
If this happens, and you can't get it cleared up, drop by my Forum and let us know. We can show you how to fix it at the drop of a hat.

That's about it for now, but..I will be adding more and more of these as I run across them. Be sure and drop back once in a while to see what's new...Hang In.
